Doctor Denise L. Folks serves as Co-Founding Senior Pastor of the Greater Church of The Risen Savior in Northeast Baltimore City. She has tirelessly served as the Co-Founding Pastor for seventeen years. She serves in the five fold ministry and has received the three fold gifting as prophet, pastor and teacher. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She is a graduate of Walbrook Senior High School under the Principalship of Dr. Anne Emery.
Dr. Folks earned her B.S. and M.ED. from Coppin State University and her Ph.D. in Pastoral Clinical Counseling from Sarasota University.She earned her B.A.,M.C.E. and D.Min. and second Ph.D. from Family Bible Institute, College, Seminary and University. She is a Professional Clinical Member and a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor- Advanced Board Certified with the National Association of Christian Counselors. She has completed additional graduate studies at Notre Dame University and Klemson University.She is a former Instructor at Coppin State University. Dr. Denise Folks is a committed life long learner.
Dr. Denise was "born again" at the age of twenty one. Minister Wayne Mitchell, former instructor of Coppin State College ministered the life changing gospel of Jesus Christ to her in 1981. She immediatedly accepted the Word of God and was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost.
She released her first poetry book, entitled "From Darkness to Light" A Living Testimony of Poetry in 1997. In 2000, she released her second poetry book, "Oh, that I had wings of a Dove" Poems touching the life of a torn heart. She is presently working on her third book. She is an author of several publications and articles.
Dr. Folks is the Foundress and CEO of the Greater Youth Christian Academy and Little Folks Child Care & Early Learning Technology Center (State Approved) which was established in 2000. She is also the Foundress of Positive Youth Expressions, Inc. Educational Institute established in October, 1993. This organization is in their 21st year of existence. In 1993 she began in Christian ministry at the Family Bible Church under the leadership of Apostle Eddie A. Montgomery, Ph.D. She was ordained as a Youth Pastor in 1996 by her Bishop.
Positive Youth Expressions, Inc. Educational Institute is presently celebrating twenty years in existence. Many youth and young adults have been encouraged and edified to excell in life.
Dr. Folks served as a Special Educator in the Baltimore City, Baltimore County and private school systems.
For more than twenty five years, Dr. Folks has worked untiringly in the fields of special education,counseling,ministry and youth outreach. In addition to serving more than ten years as a membership executive with the Girls Scouts of Central Maryland,she served as a former Court Appointed Advocate for neglected and abused children in the State of Maryland. She served as a Foster Parent for the Baltimore City Department of Social Services.
She has received countless awards and citations for her civic work. In 2002, she was awarded the Governor's Award for outstanding service to the citizens of the State of Maryland. She was ordained in 1998 as Senior Pastor by the board of Apostles/Bishops in the Lord's church under the leadership of Apostle Eddie A. Montgomery, Ph.D.,D.Min.,D.D..
She is a powerful woman of God who takes her call as a prophetess, pastor and teacher serious.She preaches the non-compromising word of God with boldness, drama, and poetic efficacy.
In 1999, she founded God's Changing "Woman" Ministry to meet the ongoing challenges of women in community life. She owns and operates two daytime ministries in Baltimore ,Dr.Denise L. Folks Self Help Center and the Dr. Denise L. Folks Women's Counsel Houses. Recently the Women Counsel House was fully renovated at a cost of more than $90,000. Through these ministries many women has received help,encouragement love and support in their journeys.

Dr. Folks is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.,National Council of Negro Women, Inc. and the National Principal Association and M.A.S.H - Maryland Association for Supportive Housing and Acclerated Christian Education.
In February, 2013, Dr. Denise Folks was a presenter at the 11th Annual NAREN ( National At Risk Education Network) Conference in Panama City Beach Florida. She presented to an audience of teachers, principals, guidance counselors and other professionals on the topic " I Am My Parents Child" which focused on identifying at risk adult behaviors that affects children and youth.
Dr. Denise L. Folks has established a new village in the Rosemont community of west Baltimore City called 'The New City of Hope'. She provide's supportive and affordable housing for women and children. As of January, 2014, Dr. Folks purchased four additional houses for "The New City of Hope ". These are additional hubs than her counsel house and Self Help Center. All properties are safe places for women and children.
